Information overload

Tag, ,

If you are the same as me, a newbie in the blogosphere,

trying to grasp as much information as you can in the shortest time possible and to apply what you learn to make your blog rank well, but unfortunately there are just too much information out there. And trying to master all of them is just impossible and you ended up more confused than ever. There are just so much things to do and you find that time is just so short when you are deep in your learning curve.

I have downloaded so many e-books packed with information but I just couldn’t find time to read them all. I found myself reading an article and before long, I realised that I have clicked on so many interesting links within the article itself leading me out of the original article that I was reading. And because of that, I have side tracked so much until I can’t even trace back to the original article that I was reading. Lost in the cyberworld I would say.

So my advice to those of you who are in the same position as me, stick to what you want to learn. When you read an article, finish reading the article once through before you start clicking on any text links within the article that you are reading. This will ensure that you understand the article and learn from it before you explore other text links which may lead you to other topics of interest. As such you may not get yourself confused trying to learn too many topics at any one time.

I would strongly suggest that you get yourself a good book or e-book on the topic that you are keen on learning and stick to it until you have finished the book before you start another book. Read chapter by chapter and digest it well. By doing this, you will find that you can progress at a speed that will get you somewhere rather than trying to cramp everything in the shortest time possible. Give yourself a time frame to learn new things and set an achievable and realistic goal and ensure that the time frame is not too short. As the saying goes, the more haste the less speed. Go at the speed that you are comfortable with and you should get there in no time. Hope to see you when I reach the top slow and steady.

By the way, this blog is the result of me reading the e-book Wordpress Adsense System. I dropped everything and concentrated just on this e-book and got this blog up within a week. After that, I read more and learn more and applied it on my blog. Well, this is not the end result yet. More improvement will be on the way as I read and learn more.

Domain name

So what is in a domain name? It is important to choose a right domain name

when you first started setting up your own website. A domain name should be short and simple. It should be easy to remember and people should be able to know what type of business you are in the moment they see your domain name. It should also pass the “Radio test”. Assuming your domain name is announced over the radio airwaves. Does the announcer have to spell out the letters one by one to the listeners? If so, the domain name failed the “Radio test”. For example, a domain name such as www.gr8xlr8income.com is not listeners friendly. What the domain meant is www.GreatAccelerateIncome .com. But when the announcer mentions it over radio, he has to spell it out letter by letter as in gr8 for great and xlr8 for accelerate. A good example of a good domain name is www.sportswear.com. It is simple and easy to understand not just for human but for search engines as well.

For my blog, I chose soho.simplyblogforcash.com. It may not be short but I like that name because that is what I want to do. I want to blog for cash. Soho is my sub-domain. I chose it because I want to work from home in my small office home office. So it literally means, working from home in my small office home office blogging for cash. :-)

Another form of domain name is using your own name as a domain name. This is to establish a name for yourself on the internet. For example, www.johnsmith.com. If you opt for this type of domain name, you must grab it fast before someone else with the same name as yours take it. Once taken it will be gone forever. There can only be one www.johnsmith.com on the internet.

Note: Some of the domain names mentioned above are purely fictitious and do not exist at the time of writing. Any matching of the domain name later on will be purely coincidental.
