So what is in a domain name? It is important to choose a right domain name

when you first started setting up your own website. A domain name should be short and simple. It should be easy to remember and people should be able to know what type of business you are in the moment they see your domain name. It should also pass the “Radio test”. Assuming your domain name is announced over the radio airwaves. Does the announcer have to spell out the letters one by one to the listeners? If so, the domain name failed the “Radio test”. For example, a domain name such as www.gr8xlr8income.com is not listeners friendly. What the domain meant is www.GreatAccelerateIncome .com. But when the announcer mentions it over radio, he has to spell it out letter by letter as in gr8 for great and xlr8 for accelerate. A good example of a good domain name is www.sportswear.com. It is simple and easy to understand not just for human but for search engines as well.

For my blog, I chose soho.simplyblogforcash.com. It may not be short but I like that name because that is what I want to do. I want to blog for cash. Soho is my sub-domain. I chose it because I want to work from home in my small office home office. So it literally means, working from home in my small office home office blogging for cash.

Another form of domain name is using your own name as a domain name. This is to establish a name for yourself on the internet. For example, www.johnsmith.com. If you opt for this type of domain name, you must grab it fast before someone else with the same name as yours take it. Once taken it will be gone forever. There can only be one www.johnsmith.com on the internet.

Note: Some of the domain names mentioned above are purely fictitious and do not exist at the time of writing. Any matching of the domain name later on will be purely coincidental.

I got a shock while working on the internet in my so called home office yesterday night. It was about midnight. The room was quiet except for the familiar sound of the fan spinning on the ceiling above my head. I appreciated the comfort of the circulating air it gave in the otherwise hot and stuffy room and I am oblivious to the noises that it produced. My wife and my children were already in the slumber land, all fast asleep in the bedroom.

All out of a sudden, an explosion in the living hall broke the silence of the peaceful night, and the whole house was pitch-dark except for the light from my computer screen. If I was like Chicken Little, I would have shouted “The sky is falling!” Whatever had happened, it did not affect my computer. Whew! That was a big relief. My computer is the gateway to the internet world. If anything happens, I would be totally cut off from the internet and I have a few blogs to maintain. To get a new computer is totally out of my budget at the moment.

My first reaction was to shut down my computer and walking totally lost in the dark,  searching for my torch light was quite a challenge. A blind man could have done better in situation like that.  Found my torch light finally, and the next task was to check what actually happened. Frankly speaking, I was nervous and scared at the same time, not knowing what to expect or rather expecting for the worse.

Upon checking, I felt a little bit relief when I noticed a light bulb on the dining table. It seems that the bulb has exploded and dropped down onto the table. The explosion has caused a short circuit in the house but it did not cause further damage to other appliances. Just imagine the quality of a light bulb nowadays. It literally blew up. But I was thankful that my computer was not affected.

And I have to take one day emergency leave from my job just to attend to the problem and getting the electrician to come to rectify the problem. At this time, how I wish I am full time working from home and not reporting to any boss. Then I don’t have to call up to inform and explain why I couldn’t work. Well I still have my computer and I am going to achieve my dream to be the SOHO guy. The next time things like this happen again (hopefully there won’t be the next time) I am not going to call my boss because I am my boss

Tagcopyright violation, Feed Wordpress

Feed Wordpress plugin is used to syndicate RSS Feed and use the contents syndicated as any other posts in a blog. A question that I would like to ask, does syndicating contents from another blog and use them as any other posts or contents for my own blog, considered violating copyright of contents of the original author?

When using the syndicated contents, the original author of the articles is named as a contributor of that posts. Credit is given to the author but no permission was granted by the author to publish the contents. Is this a violation of the copyrighted contents? It looks very much like a crime has been committed here. I never thought of it this way before, until it was highlighted to me. Since then I have removed my Feed Wordpress plugin.

The proper way to use a content from another blog is to quote the content and link it to the original source with proper credit given to the author. This will ensure no violation of copyrighted contents.

To play it safe, write your own contents. By the way, search engines prefer original contents and may just give your blog a better ranking. So start cracking your head and fill your blog with your own ideas. If you have writer’s mental block or short of ideas,  just click on the link for some simple tips.

It is my dream to make money from my blog and to be a SOHO guy. But how much money can I make online? How long do I have to wait before I can really see some fruits of my labour? Well I guess perseverance is the keyword.

It is a consolation to read that Darren Rowse in his early blogging career didn’t make that much either. He was close to giving up but he saw that the percentage of increase in income grew each month and it was an indication that there might be real potential reward at the end of it. What made him a successful blogger today is his perseverance.

Well that’s is a real motivation for me. I may just achieve my dream after all

I went to a bookshop yesterday and got myself two books entitled The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Growing Your Business With Google by Dave Taylor and Secrets Of The Internet Millionaires by Stuart Tan.

I started reading the Idiot book first. Does buying the book make me an idiot because the title of the book suggests so? Even if the cashier at the counter assumes so, I wouldn’t mind. The book is packed with information about how the Google search engine works and also other essentials information for  building a successful business online. I need to know all these in order to improve my sites page-rank.  I would be an idiot if I don’t buy this book. So I guess I am not an idiot anyhow.

I have yet to read the other book, Secrets Of The Internet Millionaires. But it promises to deliver tons of information on how to tap into massive online profits in easy steps. It exposes the internet millionaires habits and strategies and make it easy to understand in easy step-by-step guide, even for beginners. Hope it lives up to its claims.

Reading the books itself may not get me anywhere if I don’t apply what I learn. But I do hope that the authors did not hold back essentials information needed to be successful online like what most internet gurus did. That is usually their tricks to entice you to buy more from them if you want more information. Well that is one of their secrets of getting rich online.

Talking about BlogRush, it has created such a big wave recently but all has quietened down a bit. The reason is they are working on the phase 2 which is scheduled to be launched in 7 days. It promises more benefits to its members. So I will just keep my fingers crossed and wait for the launch. In the mean time I will take out the Rush from the Blog. At the moment they are doing manual reviewing to approve the widget before letting it being displayed on your blog. So there is no need to rush. Hey where is my widget? It has been ages and it is still not being displayed yet on my blog  :-(

Well just got to learn to be patient, I guess.

When you look at a photograph with a group of people in it and you are one of them, whose face would be the first one you look out for? It’s yours of course! Why? Because you would like to see how you look in that picture before you check on the others. The way you look is more important. If you look extremely good and others look like ugly duckling, the photograph will still be your most treasured piece of art.

It is not surprising since the first thing we do when we wake up in the morning is to look into the mirror to see our face. It is the EGO in us that makes us do that. Everyone has ego. So that explains the EGO in Project SEGO.

What about the “S”? It is the other people that you are interested in beside yourself. When a new movie is launched, you want to know who is the actor. When a new best selling book is launched, you want to know who is the author. When you see a handsome guy or a beautiful lady, you want to know his or her name. Yes, you are also interested in the other people. Therefore, the “S” in SEGO stands for “Subject” each with their own set of EGO.

So what is Project SEGO all about? It claims to be the simplest and easiest internet business ever. A business that emphasizes on human ego and use it to make money on the internet. But first you have to attach a label on your ego for easy reference. This label is called “Name”. Without a name, nobody can remember you well or refer you to their friends.

Not a bad idea at all. Making use of your ego to make money online. Everyone has ego. Guess everybody is eligible to do this business. Hope it won’t make you too egoistic.
